What this tool does

Keep the first copy of each line and drop the repeats, in the order you pasted them. Use it on a mailing list or a log where the same row appears more than once. With case-insensitive matching and trim, apple and Apple become one line, and the first spelling is the one that stays.

How to use

Paste multiline text. The input is not changed until you run the tool.
Optionally match case-insensitively, trim spaces before comparing, or drop empty lines.
Press Remove duplicates. The first occurrence of each line is kept, in order.
Copy or download the unique list. Clear both boxes when you are done.

Examples

A mailing list
apple, Apple, apple with trim and case-insensitive matching become a single apple, keeping the first spelling you pasted.
Blank lines
Turn on Remove empty lines if you want only non-blank unique rows. Otherwise empty lines are a value like any other.

How it works

Each line is keyed by the comparison options. The first time a key appears it is kept; later repeats are counted as duplicates removed. Order of first occurrences is preserved.

Limitations

The first matching line is kept, in the order you pasted. Case, trim, and empty-line options change what counts as the same line. Later repeats are counted and dropped. More than 400,000 characters is refused. The input box itself is not rewritten.
