QR Code Scanner — Camera or Image Upload — Tools Star Hub

What this tool does

Read the first QR code from the camera or from a PNG or JPG. Use it when you want the text on the page before you decide to open a link. The camera stays off until you press Start camera, and other barcode families are not decoded.

How to use

  1. Press Start camera only if you want to scan with the device camera. Permission is requested at that moment, not on page load.
  2. Hold the code in view until a result appears, or press Stop camera to release the stream.
  3. If the camera is blocked, upload a PNG or JPG of the code instead.
  4. Copy the result. If it is an http(s) URL, Open link is offered. The page does not navigate by itself.

Examples

  • Camera scan

After you start the camera, frames are decoded in the tab. The stream stops when a code is found or when you press Stop.

  • Image upload

A screenshot of a QR code can be decoded even when camera permission is denied.

How it works

Decoding uses a local JavaScript reader on camera frames or an uploaded image. Camera access starts only after you click Start camera. Tracks are stopped on Stop, successful scan, and when you leave the page. A detected URL is shown first; opening it is a separate action.

Limitations

The first code the reader finds is the one shown. Other barcode families are not decoded. A link stays on the page until you press Open link, and the camera stays off until you press Start camera.

FAQ

Is the QR Code Scanner free?
Yes. Reading a QR code from the camera or from an image is free, and no account is required.
Are camera frames uploaded?
No. Frames after Start camera, and a PNG or JPG you choose, are decoded in this tab. Neither is sent to Tools Star Hub.
Why didn’t it open the website automatically?
Automatic navigation to a scanned URL is unsafe. Review the text, then use Open link if you trust it.
What if the image has more than one QR code?
This reader reports the first code it can decode. Crop the image if you need a specific code.
Does it work on mobile?
Yes. You can open this page on a phone or tablet. File pickers and downloads use the browser on your device. Large files may be slower on a small phone than on a desktop.
