Image Color Analyzer — Approximate Dominant Colors — Tools Star Hub

What this tool does

List 3 to 10 dominant colors from a JPG, PNG, or WebP, with each color’s share of the sampled pixels. Use it when you want a starting palette from a photo. The image is reduced to a 96-pixel edge first, so a rare color can be missed.

How to use

  1. Upload a JPG, PNG or WebP image.
  2. Choose how many dominant colors to show, from 3 to 10.
  3. Analyze, then copy HEX or RGB values from the swatches.

Examples

  • A photo of a blue sky

Most sampled pixels fall into blue-ish buckets. The listed share is the portion of sampled pixels, not a laboratory measurement.

How it works

The image is downsampled, then similar pixels are grouped. The listed colors are averages of those groups. This is an approximation from processed pixels, not a mathematically exact palette or print proof.

Limitations

The photo is reduced to a 96-pixel edge before pixels are grouped, and nearly transparent pixels are skipped. You can ask for 3 to 10 colors. The share is of those sampled pixels. GIF and HEIC files do not open, and a file over 25 MB or a side over 8192 pixels is refused.

FAQ

Is the Image Color Analyzer free?
Yes. Listing dominant colors from a JPG, PNG, or WebP is free, with no account.
Are the percentages exact?
No. They describe sampled, quantized pixels from a smaller copy of the image. Fine details and rare colors can be missed.
Is my input sent to a server?
No. Sampling stays in this tab. The photo is not uploaded and not written to local storage.
How do I find the main colors in an image?
Upload a JPG, PNG, or WebP and choose how many colors to list, from 3 to 10. Similar pixels are grouped and each color shows its share.
Can I get the hex code of a color in a photo?
Yes. Each listed color can be copied as HEX or RGB, ready for a design tool or CSS.
Does it work on mobile?
Yes. You can open this page on a phone or tablet. File pickers and downloads use the browser on your device. Large files may be slower on a small phone than on a desktop.
