What this tool does

Estimate one paycheck and a year of pay from gross pay and the deductions you type.

How to use

  1. Enter gross pay for one paycheck.
  2. Choose weekly, every two weeks, twice a month, or monthly.
  3. Enter pre-tax deductions, withholding as a percent or a dollar amount, and post-tax deductions. Blank deductions count as 0.
  4. Press Calculate.

Examples

  • 1,000 dollars with 10 percent withholding

With no other deductions, withholding is 100 dollars and net pay is 900 dollars.

  • A dollar withholding amount

A 200 dollar withholding on a 1,000 dollar paycheck leaves 800 dollars when other deductions are 0.

Main features

  • Four pay frequencies.
  • Percent or dollar withholding.
  • A net paycheck and an annual estimate at that same frequency.

How it works

Pre-tax deductions come out of gross pay first. Withholding is then a percent of what remains, or the dollar amount you typed. Post-tax deductions come out after withholding. Annual figures repeat that paycheck by 52, 26, 24, or 12.

Tips

  • Leave a deduction blank when it is zero.
  • Use percent withholding only for the rate you want this estimate to assume.

Limitations

Withholding is entirely the number you enter. This page does not use IRS, state, or local tax tables, and it is not an official tax calculation.

FAQ

How is take-home pay estimated?
Gross pay minus pre-tax deductions, minus the withholding you entered, minus post-tax deductions.
What is the difference between pre-tax and post-tax deductions?
Pre-tax deductions reduce the amount used for withholding. Post-tax deductions are subtracted after withholding.
How does withholding percent work?
The percent is applied to gross pay after pre-tax deductions. 0 percent withholds nothing. 100 percent withholds all of that remaining amount.
What do the pay frequencies mean?
Weekly uses 52 paychecks, every two weeks uses 26, twice a month uses 24, and monthly uses 12.
Is this an official tax calculation?
No. It uses only the withholding percent or dollar amount you type.
Are these numbers sent to a server?
No. Gross pay and the withholding you typed are estimated here. They are not uploaded.
