How to Find and Replace Text

By Tools Star Hub Editorial Team · Published

Type the exact characters to find, type the replacement, and choose the first match or every match. Case-sensitive mode compares the letters as typed. With case sensitivity off, the search ignores letter case and still inserts the replacement as you typed it.

This is a literal search. A pattern such as any number belongs on the Regex Tester.

How to find and replace text

  1. Paste the original text. An empty source is rejected.
  2. Enter the text to find. A blank find box is rejected. Enter the replacement, or leave it blank to delete the matches.
  3. Choose the first match or every match. The search continues after each match, so the replacement is not searched again in the same pass.

It deletes the matches.
Does Replace first change later copies?
No. Only the first match changes.
Why was the box rejected?
The source was empty, or the find box was blank.
