What this tool does

Turn common HTML tags into Markdown: headings, links, lists, images, and tables. Use it when a blog excerpt or a CMS export should become a .md file. Script, style, and iframe blocks are skipped, and nested layouts can flatten.

How to use

  1. Paste HTML source. It is treated as text, not loaded as a page.
  2. Press Convert. Common tags become Markdown; script and style blocks are skipped.
  3. Copy the Markdown or download a .md file.
  4. Use Sample to see a safe example that does not execute.

Examples

  • A blog excerpt

<h2>Title</h2><p>Hello <strong>world</strong></p> becomes ## Title and a paragraph with **world**.

  • Unwanted scripts

A <script> block is ignored. The converter never evals or injects the markup into the document.

How it works

HTML is tokenized as source. Headings, paragraphs, links, emphasis, lists, quotes, code, pre, images, tables and rules map to Markdown. Nested layouts and custom elements may flatten. This is a practical subset, not a full HTML implementation.

Limitations

Headings, paragraphs, links, emphasis, lists, quotes, code, images, tables, and rules map to Markdown. Script, style, iframe, object, embed, and noscript blocks are skipped. Nested layouts can flatten. More than 400,000 characters is refused.

FAQ

Is the HTML to Markdown converter free?
Yes. Turning common HTML into Markdown is free, with no account.
Is the HTML executed?
No. It never becomes live DOM on this page. Script, style and iframe contents are skipped.
Is my input sent to a server?
No. Conversion stays in this tab. The HTML is not posted to a server or stored in local storage.
Why convert HTML to Markdown?
Markdown is easier to edit and review than HTML, and many documentation sites, wikis, and note apps use it.
Does the conversion keep links and images?
Yes. Links become [text](url) and images become ![alt](src). Scripts, styles, and embedded frames are skipped.
