How to Count the Days Between Two Dates

By Tools Star Hub Editorial Team · Published

The exact count is the number of midnights between the start date and the end date. A calendar span in years, months, and days is a second description of the same two dates, and it is not the same number.

People ask how long a period is and then mix 31 days with 1 month. Both can be right. They are different units. Time of day is ignored.

How to count the days

  1. Choose the start date and the end date. The page uses the dates only. Hours and minutes are not part of the count.
  2. Read the total days for an exact count. That number is the midnights from the start date up to the end date. The same date twice is 0.
  3. Read weeks from that day count. Weeks are the day count divided by 7, plus the leftover days.
  4. Read the calendar span when months matter. If the end day falls earlier in the month, the count borrows the real length of the previous month. February is not 30 days.
  5. Treat the average-month line as a rough size. It is the day count divided by 30.44. It is not a second calendar result.

Reversed dates and weekends
