How to Count Business Days
By Tools Star Hub Editorial Team · Published
A business day on this page is a Monday through Friday inside the range. Saturday and Sunday are weekend days. The count does not know local holidays until you exclude those dates yourself.
The Date Difference Calculator counts every calendar day, including weekends. Use that when the weekends should stay in the total.
How to count business days
- Enter the start date and the end date. If the end is earlier, the page still counts the span and says the dates were reversed.
- Choose whether the end date counts. On a same-day range, leaving the end date out produces 0 calendar days.
- List dates to exclude. Put one date per line when a weekday should not count. A date outside the range is ignored. A repeated date is counted once.
- Read business days, weekend days, and calendar days. Weekend days are Saturday and Sunday inside the range.
Example
Monday through Friday
2024-01-01 through 2024-01-05, including the end date, is 5 business days, 0 weekend days, and 5 calendar days.
A weekend, a leap day, and an exclusion
2024-01-06 through 2024-01-07 is 0 business days and 2 weekend days. 2024-02-29 is a Thursday, so that one day is 1 business day. Excluding 2024-01-01 from the Monday-through-Friday range leaves 4 business days. A second copy of that date, and a date in February, do not remove another day.
