How to Convert a Time Between Zones
By Tools Star Hub Editorial Team · Published
Pick the date, the clock time, the source zone, and the target zone. The page shows that same instant on the target clock, including the UTC offset of each zone.
Zones do not share one offset all year. A June conversion and a January conversion can differ by an hour because of daylight saving. This page does not turn the time into a Unix timestamp. That job belongs to the Timestamp Converter.
How to convert a time between zones
- Enter a real calendar date and a time. An impossible date such as 2024-02-31 is rejected.
- Choose the source zone and the target zone. The same zone on both sides keeps the same clock time.
- Read both clock times and both offsets. A time that falls in a spring-forward gap is rejected. A time that falls in a fall-back hour uses the earlier offset and says the hour is ambiguous.
Example
New York noon in June
2024-06-15 at 12:00 in America/New_York is 2024-06-15 at 17:00 in Europe/London. New York is UTC-04:00 and London is UTC+01:00 on that date.
A date line and a skipped hour
2024-01-15 at 10:00 in Pacific/Auckland is 2024-01-14 at 13:00 in America/Los_Angeles. 2024-11-03 at 01:30 in America/New_York is ambiguous, and the page uses UTC-04:00 and says so. 2024-03-10 at 02:30 in America/New_York is rejected because that clock time is skipped.
FAQ
- Does this count days?
- No. The Date Difference Calculator counts calendar days. This page moves one clock time between zones.
- What happens in the repeated autumn hour?
- The page uses the earlier offset and marks the time as ambiguous.
- What happens in the missing spring hour?
- That time is rejected.
- Can the calendar day change?
- Yes. Auckland 10:00 on 15 January 2024 is still 14 January in Los Angeles.
