What this tool does

Drag a box over a JPG, PNG, or WebP and download the original pixels inside it. Use it for a square profile photo or a 16:9 cover when you only need a frame. The ratios are free, 1:1, 4:3, and 16:9, and the page does not rotate or filter the photo.

How to use

  1. Upload a JPG, PNG or WebP image.
  2. Drag the crop box to move it. Use the handles to resize it.
  3. Choose Free, 1:1, 4:3 or 16:9 if you need a set shape.
  4. Press Crop, preview the result, then download or reset.

Examples

  • Square social crop

Choose 1:1, place the box on the subject, then crop.

  • Widescreen

16:9 keeps a wide frame while you move the box over the original photo.

How it works

The crop box is mapped back to the original pixels, then that rectangle is drawn to a canvas. Aspect-ratio options keep the box in proportion. This is a simple cropper, not a full photo editor: there is no rotate, filter or healing brush.

Limitations

Rotation, filters, and a healing brush are not on this page. The frame can be free, 1:1, 4:3, or 16:9, and the download is the original pixels inside that frame. GIF, HEIC, and SVG files do not open. A file over 25 MB, or a side longer than 8192 pixels, is turned away.

FAQ

Is the Image Cropper free?
Yes. Cropping a JPG, PNG, or WebP in this browser does not require payment or an account.
Is the photo uploaded?
No. The crop is drawn in this tab from the file you picked. The photo is not sent to Tools Star Hub.
Can I crop on a phone?
Yes. Drag the box with a finger. Handles are large enough to tap. The preview stays within the screen width.
What aspect ratio should I crop to?
Use 1:1 for profile pictures and square posts, 16:9 for video thumbnails and widescreen banners, and 4:3 for many slides and older displays. Free lets you choose any shape.
Does cropping reduce image quality?
No. Cropping removes the pixels outside the frame and keeps the pixels inside it, so the area you keep is not blurred.
Does it work on mobile?
Yes. You can open this page on a phone or tablet. File pickers and downloads use the browser on your device. Large files may be slower on a small phone than on a desktop.
